It just seems wrong...you are serving the military for your country and you’re struggling to put food on the table. You enlisted to serve, trained for battle and are equipped with the latest armor except, now you're standing in line at the food bank waiting for any type of food, because you're going hungry. The dynamics are just backwards and plain wrong. The shocking number of people nearly doubles as many of our own military members are forced to turn to local food banks and soup kitchens in order to get what they need because they are struggling with the high costs of living...to attain what many take for granted...our fuel to survive...food. According to the San Diego Food Bank, every month over 40,000 local active duty military members and their dependents seek food assistance from the Food Bank. That’s 40 thousand people...EVERY MONTH and growing needing assistance with food. This is an example of just ONE food bank that services our military. There are hundreds more like it across the USA. The reasons for this madness is striking. Members of the military are struggling to provide food for their families because many are living in other parts of the country where the cost of living is low. Then they are relocated and stationed here in San Diego or many other cities across the US. Only to find the shock of the transition hitting the wallet the hardest instead. The cost of living nearly doubles and for some, triples. Making living adjustments with military pay has lead to the hidden hunger we are trying to combat. Then other reasons include the high unemployment rates for the spouses of military members. The absurd notion that you can’t be hirable because your a spouse serving your country - by proxy- is imaginable but very real. Employers are often reluctant to hire the military spouses because they fear those spouses won’t be here for long because of military transfers. This type of madness is truly disheartening due to the fact that we are suppose to be taking care of our own soldiers and family, through our own government. The realizations for many who are enlisted grows as the hidden crisis lingers even in our own military. It's so unfortunate that there are families facing that situation. We don't have to be alone in this. See we can help with this cause. Sharing the resources on this site will help those locate food kitchens and pantries that will help so many. Sharing this resource also helps with those who need finances to get more than just food. Finances that will give them freedom of choices on what they can buy, where they can live and what they can do. By giving the gift of education and resources, we are able to enhance those that are in need. ~Beverly Gonzalez A former Wound Nurse and Hyperbarics Director, with over 20 years of web design and marketing, founded and built 5 online companies and is now sharing the good news to all in one place, www.RenewedAwakening.org
